Hi blog world. Boy am I excited to finally not be just a reader but a blogger. I’m Alex, 23 years old and originally from Massachusetts. May 2012 I graduated from a university in Virginia with a BA in psychology and business administration. Currently, I reside in a brand new city to me – DC. Through a fellowship I received at my university, I will be working with a non-profit mentoring high school students called BUILD. On top of that, I work part time at a running store. Sleep, Run, Work, Eat repeat.
There is so much about me that I want and will share through this blog. Here are a few fun facts that I think really define me… (also check out my Snapshots page where I list some of my must haves!)
1. I have probably the BEST LITTLE SISTER anyone could ask for. She is two years younger and decided to go down south as well for college. We are more than anything two peas in a pod. We shared a bedroom (bunk beds to say the least) for over 14 years. People think we are twins because we look very much alike. Sadly, she is taller making everyone guess she is older. We were inseparable when we were younger and were either found playing imaginary games outside, making up plays or creating dances. While we may be physically apart, I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She is my rock, my role model and most of all my best friend.

2. From the header, I guess you can tell I am a DISTANCE RUNNER. In high school I ran cross-country and did the 2 mile at winter track. Distance is my jam. My runs each morning are what I consider my me time. No music, just thoughts and pavement. I named my blog ‘The Run Within’ because running has helped me through some of my tough times. Running isn’t about competing, it isn’t about looking a certain way, it isn’t about perfection. Running for me is healing and it is can be just what my inner me needs that day. When I run, I leave it all out there. A run truly from within.

3. My four years as an undergraduate I learned a lot about myself. I was a RESIDENT ADVISER for three years with the last year being Head RA. Yes, that made my college experience a little atypical but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I felt different from my school but what I found in the group of RAs was a community I needed to keep me there and loving it. I was also a Bonner Leader for three years and did over 1350 hours of community service in that time even starting my own mentoring program for the community kids.
4. Two years ago I was diagnosed with celiac meaning I am ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN. Moving out of a dorm made gluten free eating a whole lot easier. It has been a learning experience but through working with a nutritionist I found how to power, fuel and feed my body without feeling deprived. However, I am always looking for new tips or tricks from fellow bloggers that deal with the same issues. All I know is since being gluten-free I have less stomach issues, have more energy and just overall a better mood.
5. It is so hard to describe my personality so I won’t even try. I think through the blog you will really get to know who Alex is… I warn you that HUMOR AND SARCASM will play a role.

Thanks for coming to my blog and I really hope you stick around. I love connecting with people and the blogging community so shoot any questions my way!
Alex

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I’m excited to have another gf friend!
Thanks so much. I am so happy I found your blog to get more gf inspiration!
I’m a Theta from Miami U. in Ohio!
Awesome! Glad you caught that from my pictures. Thanks for reading!
Good luck with graduation and the move to DC
It’s such a fun city!
That is what I’ve heard, can you believe I haven’t spent more than 24 hours there!
Wow-you’ll definitely have time to explore more. Well there is lots to do and tons of restaurants, bars, shops, gyms, etc. I’m sure you’ll love it!
I can’t wait!
Nice to discover your blog as well
I am jealous you are moving to D.C. I love it there!
I am glad to hear that! I haven’t been there for more than 24 hours at a time so i am a bit nervous but ready. First time in a city!
Great to discover another blogger in VA (and runner!) I work up in D.C. part of the week and then also work on a research project at UVa so I’m constantly driving back and forth. I don’t mind it though because I love both places
Good luck at your new job! As a former high school teacher (and as someone still in education), I know how much we need good people working to make a difference!
Thanks for reading! Love hearing about fellow bloggers and of course runners in the area. What a trek from DC to VA for part of the week! At least they are both amazing areas. Charlottesville is one of my favorite places.
Cute blog
welcome to the DC area! My hubby went to UVa
Thank you.. can’t wait to move to DC. Freaking out a bit but ready for a change.
You will love it
We might have to do a blogger meet up so you can meet some of the locals
Oh my gosh please!!!!
Hey fellow recent grad! I love the photo of you and your sis in your bathing suits. I feel like my sis (also 2 years younger) and I had almost the exact same ones growing up. And I just moved to central MD after going to JMU, so that’s pretty similar, right? OH and your job = absolutely awesome. That’s probably one of my dream jobs.
I had a friend that went to JMU, that was actually right near my undergrad. My aunt is from MD, it was such a great drive through it!
Yeah I don’t know much about the area yet, but so far it looks nice! Good luck in DC. :]
Hi Alex! I love that you call your sister your best friends because that’s what my sister is to me! We are two years apart in age and had shared a room (and a queen size bed) for 16 years! Needless to say, we are inseparable! People look at us crazy, but we have this magical rope that cannot be cut loose. And we don’t want it to be! I am excited to meet someone who understands that! =)
so cool! Thank you for reading, I am heading over to check out your blog. I love finding people that are so similar!
Lovely blog! I love how close you are with your sister! Family is so important. I have twin girls and I hope they grow up with that attitude- adore each other but still be their own person.
I am glad you found it, I love new readers especially ones whose blogs I can go check out now!
HI Alex! It’s Kristin from My Mission Impossible…Just wanted to stop by and see who this sweetheart was giving me so much encouragement! Love the pages describing you..I’ll be back when I have more time to read!
Aw thanks kristin, I was seriously blown away by what you did because I have been twiddling my thumbs looking at that program too afraid to try it.
Hey Alex! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog so I could find yours. I’m also a New Englander (RI) who decided to move down to DC! Can’t wait to read more!
I saw that and was stoked to have found you!

I love this about page. The fact that you spent most of it talking about your sister lets me know you’re my kind of girl
I, too, have a little sister who is my absolute best friend. I think she would probably say she feels your pain-she is also the shorter one!
Oh man that is so cool! I love finding fellow sister buddies. Thanks for reading Natalie!
aww…I just need to keep coming back! I know I have been here before, but when you stopped by my blog today (thank you!), I remembered. I hope we keep this up! (My mom has celiac’s too)
I always read your blog, you are on my everyday read selection. so cool about your mom, well kind of. I hate having it but learning to deal with it
Are you serious? And to think, this month has been a bad writing month (what with training for the marathon). I am truly humbled.
you are too sweet!
Can I just say I love that you put your sister down as one of the first things about you? Having a little sister myself that I miss dearly (who people also guess is older thanks to her height, not fair), I can really appreciate you gushing about her.
She is my best friend hands down. I am glad you can relate to that!
Hi Alex! I’ve been blog-stalking you for awhile, so I think it’s finally time so say hi! Haha I must say that you have an awesome blog, and being a new (and young) blogger, I am definitely inspired. I love the approach you have towards running. Sometimes I think that runs benefit my mental health more than my physical.
I look forward to reading more from you!
Aw thanks Abby! I am glad you commented and spoke out. I love hearing from my readers.

I just found your blog and am so excited because I def have a gluten sensitivity and avoid it as best I can! It can be hard, but is well worth it to feel better
Wooo so happy you stopped by Tori!
Hey! I am a long distance runner too, born and raised in the DC area… hopefully DC is treating you well and you feel right at home. We have tons of great running trails, which I hope you have already discovered. And tons of amazing races!
