This week is coming together. Texting/catching up with the person I wanted and needed to hear from. A killer run with no rain. New body pump release that made me and my buddy cry. Getting to see Ashley today. I mean I think I am doing all right.
Remember those characters posts? I kind of dug them. So I am bringing the theme back.
Four months in and I can really say I am still loving this job. I live for this enviroment that they have. Sure it can be stressful but this is the kind of atmosphere I see myself as time goes on. I mean ask me in a few months but right now I am living the high.
Now – I don’t mean to snark, I actually find office characters the best part about work. And hey, I know many of us commit a lot of the office ‘do nots’ so why not poke fun at the office-isms. The best part about joining a new office is coming in thinking how odd some of the behaviors are and then slowly finding yourself doing them. Nothing breaks up a day more than laughing with coworkers about the latest gems that enter the office. I will note you get a lot more personal when your office is basically open space with a pod like configuration. We all get in each other’s business, it is the fun of marketing
The Lunch Star – Dear god the amount that one meal can smell up a building blows my mind. And for some reason it is always the same folks that grab that tuna, loaded egg salad or food truck feast. I do though get quite a laugh when the kid right in front of me pulls out his muscle building drink mix because it smells like pixie sticks.Every day I ask him to buy me pixie sticks – the smell just makes me want them. Sadly he thinks I am joking, so false.
Catch Phrase King- My old pod mate was the boss of this one. There are many catchy little phrases that are both company and marketer specific that stick with people. You hear a lot of it when they are on the phone and it is hard not to laugh, or worse pick it up. ‘I’ll take your lead’ ‘Just looping back in
Scripting Slaves – This one is hard to listen to. Really hard. I think more people are comfortable than others in interacting over the phone but you can clearly tell when they are not. It is like a robot just spit out words. I- would- like -to -speak -with -Mr. -Smith.
Free Birds – You know that person. Where every time you pass by or look over they are on gchat, or facebook or their phone. I understand the occassional distraction but with our structure you need to maximize the 40 hour work week so it baffles me when people have time to do this. I usually take a break to get all that out – like 30 minutes – so I am not that person
Hammer Fingers – Dear god it is like there is a fight going on with their computer. They slam the keys like it is a game of punch the gofer. You can also hear them a mile away. MILE AWAY.
Hype Masters – In this field, you are slammed with incentives. That means you have those hype masters that are throwing emails and meetings down your throat to get you on task and ready to go. Honestly, it reminds me of a sorority – that chair that would shout from the high heavens to get involvement. Guys. I. Am. So. Excited. It may just be my aversion to bubbly attitudes that makes this one hilarious to me.
Reply All Culprits – Nothing makes me want to scream more than when people are all happy go lucky with that reply all button. Please I do not need to know that you too want to say yay! or whatever else needs to be noted. I rarely if ever do reply all because it drives me mad. MAD.
Big Guy on Campus – Yep, every office has these. The ones that will always want to talk about themselves, their achievements and don’t try to act modest in any sense. You scheduled something? Well he/she scheduled two today. You drank water? Well he/she drank vitamin enhanced purified agua. You would think their head would pop.
Oh goodness. Nothing like THAT guy/girl. Rock on your Tuesday.
