Trade-em Up: Claim Ticket

I am always just happy when Monday is over. It is one thing to pull a long day at one job but going from one job to the next is super difficult. You think I would learn that when I keep signing up for those Monday night shifts.

I think I am going to keep with these trade em up Tuesdays. I used to do them religiously but they fell toward the wayside. Sure, it may have a bit of negative spin but I probably wouldn’t trade for all those bad luck omens that get thrown my way. We all need to make life interesting right? Either that or I would be talking about work 24/7. No fun there. For some reason though, when I sat down to write this all I could think of were things I would not trade. Is this me?

Whatever, I am going to roll with it for this week.

I would not trade… my Monday morning run. Getting out of my bed, sure not the most fun. But I resisted that temptation to hit my snooze because I knew I had an early day at the office with a run plus strength on the agenda. Boy was the run glorious. I was a speedy, no idea where it came from but I rolled with it for a little over 9 miles. I dug it. Then I did phase 4 workout A for BBBC.

I would not trade… throwbacks. Oh man this dance was my all time favorite.

I would not trade… this kickass feeling I get after doing lifting. I don’t think it is for any reason other than I am beyond proud I now actually lift. Like no question about it, I keep my sticky note of workouts in my secret pocket of my headband so that right after my run I hit my apartment gym. Going up in weights just makes me feel proud and shows me I don’t need to be in the gym everyday to see results. A great realization if you ask me. Physically I may not be seeing changes but what I really care about is the mental hey if you put your mind to it you can do it changes. Confidence is key.

I would not trade… me wanting to ask those questions. For real, what would you like to see more on the blog? What would you like to see less of? Any suggestions  overall? (if you want to say this anonymously or less private email therunwithin@gmail..com) I mean who knows, maybe you want to see a hip hop video of me? Jokes jokes jokes

I would not trade… our kickoff meeting. There is a big event at my job in May that we basically work towards all year. Guess who is one of the primary leaders? This girl. We have already started planning for it just showing what a big deal it is. (If you are in DC you better be certain you will get an invite!) Our kickoff meeting was dare I say… fun. We had some hilarious coworker laughs over team building games as well as some serious conversations. A balance people.

I would not trade… the bus gods. Typical red line made my 25 minute commute to my second job an hour, an hour of sitting in the tunnels. Leaving work though at 8pm I normally walk about 25 minutes home, in the dark, in the cold. As I was leaving work I see the bus stopped at the red line. Enter sprinting Alex to the next stop full speed ahead. Friends, that was a 5 minute bus ride home that I couldn’t stop smiling about.

I would not trade… the networking meeting I have this morning with a big time leader in the education reform system. His background is insane, super intimidating but also pretty inspirational. I can’t wait to pick his brain!

I would not trade… group texts between my mom, sister and I. Let’s just say a bobbing cat head was involved. There always seems to be some crazy fluffy animal that pops up occasionally.

I would not trade... a baking attempt even though it was an ultimate fail. I used my mini donut maker for the first time people! However, I should have realized I had zero ingredients to make it with. I ended using a scoop of protein powder, two egg whites, baking soda, cinnamon apple sauce and stevia to make six mini donuts. They were as they sound, pretty freaking inedible. Eh, just means I need to find a way to perfect this!

I would not trade… my compression socks. I need to get another pair, that is all. Maybe next paycheck? Let’s be real, this will probably have to be put on hold. The ones I have now will just have to get a lot of use.

I would not trade… an amazing sound board. Lately, I have had a ton to say but am having a hard time putting it into words. Texts, emails and chats with blends tend to make me feel less crazy so although I can’t put it all on paper they get it. Even that helps.

I would not trade.. .my current office space. Since our internet has been all wonky, I still did not have internet at my desk. Meaning I was sharing an office with a coworker. Well it has been an awesome week, I kind of wish I didn’t have to move out tomorrow. He listens to the same music as me aka musicals and a Capella groups and 90s throwbacks. Who could ask for more? No need for headphones during that week.

I would not trade… perseverance. I can feel a little beat down sometimes but I don’t stop. I am continuing with applications which is never an easy task for me, I get so nervous trying to promote myself.

But as tradition has it... I would trade…

  • this whole food avoidance, or food cut out, or certain food reduce mentality I keep seeing. it isn’t about the food, it is your attitude towards it.
  • starting off the week tired, I swear I shoot myself in the foot by pulling my longest day on a Monday.
  • a sore throat, please don’t get sick, please don’t get sick, please don’t get sick
  • anigif_enhanced-buzz-15518-1355769150-1

And just like that its Tuesday. Bring it on. (But please no cheerleaders!)

Questions: What would you trade up on your Tuesday? What wouldn’t you trade?

  1. I like this spin on the trade ‘em up Tuesday. Dang, don’t you just hate when you waste all those ingredients on a baking fail. It’s my major pet peeve, since it’s not cheap.
Your so right about confident being key with lifting. I’m glad you are loving it so much! That’s awesome.

  2. Can I just give a giant HECK YES to the fact that all you could think of were non-tradables?! And let’s face it some of your biggest tradables (of things mentioned and of things not mentioned) would require changing a helluva lot more than your mentality. Yesterday could have gone either of two ways for you, and you made the most of it. Kicking off the week with a heavy day but still ending with a light heart? Applause, my friend, applause.

  3. These dog pictures had me cracking up!! Look at you being one of the primary leaders! I always get a bit nervous when asked to lead something ;) . It’s a bit out of my comfort zone.
I would definitely trade feeling a bit tired and this cold sore that has popped up :/.
    Have a great Tuesday!!

  4. SECRET POCKET! i wouldn’t trade you in my life and our plans to hang on saturday :)

  5. I wouldn’t trade my sensational HIIT run from earlier today but I would most definitely trade the lactic acid build-up that comes with it!

  6. I would trade Sean’s picks on the Bachelor last night. Ugh. I wouldn’t trade my morning cereal for anything else today. It sounds so good!

  7. I wouldn’t trade slowly converting you into a weight lifter :-p It definitely effects your confidence levels!

  8. I would trade this 100% humidity you can’t see through! I wouldn’t trade some quality family time we have been having lately!

  9. So many positives in this week’s post! I’d say you’re acting as your own personal cheerleader! I don’t need to sugarcoat things for you since you are always pretty down-to-earth. You know that parts of your life are tough and that’s fine. You get through it. And you’ll continue to push through it with awesome runs, family, and blends. Remember that I’m just a text or email away, though, girl, if you feel like you need just one more person to release that inner crazy.
P.S- hip hop dancing video? Now that you mention it….

  10. So many things I love on here…compression socks and group texts with my family?! My dad used emojis when we were texting yesterday, it made my day. You’re really tempting me to venture into the weight room….I’m hoping you don’t get sick either!

  11. I’m with you on the lifting. I’m finally getting into it and I love it! I love feeling strong :) Hope your Tuesday goes well!

  12. Oh gawd, how I love So You Think You Can Dance. Have you seen this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M5u_DZXpA4 Incredible.

  13. I love lifting! It feels so good to be back in the gym now that my teeth “{or lack thereof} are all healed up.

I would not trade my job and paycheck…but I would trade getting up at 6am everyday for said job. This girl likes to sleep lots & sleep in!

  14. You watch SYTYCD too!? You’re my TV twin. Congrats on being a leader for that project! You’ll kick ass :p I would trade the -2 wind chill today for springtime weather. I wouldn’t trade the awesome caramel coffee I just made on the Keurig for about anything in the whole world.

  15. I love that last picture of the dog with the cupcakes. So Max!

  16. I like that your trades have become less and you have more non tradables this week!! But serioulsy starting Monday’s off ridiculously tired is not good!

  17. I get the same feeling when I lift weights, too! I’ve started doing a lot more strength training and it’s amazing how quickly you can feel a difference (or maybe it’s all psychological hahah I’m ok with that, too!) Good job!!! Keep it up. You’ll DEFINITELY start to see the tone and it’ll be an even greater motivator :)

  18. Say no to sickness! For real. Whenever I feel something might be coming on, I get kind of pissed and say “Ohhhh, heck no. Ain’t no one got time for that sh*t” and my body seems to listen. Sending good vibes your way! And can I be sappy and say that I wouldn’t trade you for all the tea in China? (even if you WERE the reason I was belting out the chorus to Gotye all day yesterday). Love you, girlie. Need to get back to you with the e-mail. Thinking, thinking.

  19. So sorry about your baking fail :( . It hate when things don’t turn out like I want them to but sometimes you just have to experiment… or look up recipes online? Maybe the donut maker website, I dunno.

Glad things are working out well with your job, the kickoff meeting was good and you got to meet that high-profile educator. I remember how anxious you were about things there a few months ago when you started so it’s nice to read that you seem happy and well-adjusted :)

    • I totally feel more adjusted and more like I can tackle a lot more, especially when it comes to networking and promoting. Who knew I would hone those skills while I was here. When I have time I will be looking up some high quality recipes, I need to reemerge.

  20. I would trade this meeting I have after school for being able to get outside and enjoy some of the warmer weather we’re having today! Itz supposed to get up to 58!

  21. I wouldn’t trade dog gifs. A pug dressed like a unicorn? You know the way to this girl’s (weirdo) heart!

  22. You have fabulous taste in music and i am jealous of the fact that you have compression socks…i need a pair stat

  23. I know what you mean about the whole cutting out foods for diet purposes. It seems so wasteful to focus on things to avoid instead of things to eat. I would trade having to cook all of my meals for my own personal chef. How awesome would it be to have healthy meals and snacks all day?

  24. I would definitely trade up this cold weather for some warmer temps. Doesn’t have to be summer-warm, I just want to get away from the harsh chills.

Sorry you had a baking fail. I always wonder what those professional cooks say if they ever mess up. Take for instance Paula Deen… “Sorry your cookies taste like cardboard, kids! Grandma was experimenting.”….?

As for protein powder and applesauce. Those two are always hard to work with together. That’s why I always made things in the microwave. Haha. It always seemed to be able to pull of miracles :) If you haven’t tried this already, I’d try using some banana or squash with the donuts to be more moist and “glue-like”, ya know?

  25. All those SYTYCD videos make me miss season 3, that was the best season in my opinion, the dances were AMAZING.
The feeling after lifting weights is the best! I love feel that strong, even if my arms/legs feel like jell-o :)
I would love a pair of compression socks, but I’m think that purchase will have to wait until or my birthday or until I have a big girl job.

  26. Random, but I have a sore throat too! — sick twins lol I’ve seen so many donut recipes out there.. but just can’t seem to remember them off the top of my head haha too bad they didn’t turn out good!! You should try muffin recipes too :)

  27. Um, happiest Trade ‘em Up Tuesday ever. Love it. (p.s. I love Trade ‘em Up Tuesday all the time. For real. One of my favorite themes of yours). And um YES I want to see a video of you hip hopping on your blog! Except then I bet you’d make me do the same thing, and Lord knows that’s not happening until I’m 209348209348 times more confident in my skillz.

GIRL. Stop it with the SYTYCD! You’re keeping me from getting work done! Ugh, Twitch and Alex. So classic. So baller.

Also: GIRL. Love that you love lifting! Doesn’t it make you feel so hardcore?? That was the first thing I realized when I got into lifting, and it’s the best. I really need to stop doing my lifting in my bedroom and start doing it in my gym so I have access to different weights other than just 5 and 10 lb dumbbells.

Can I be invited to your thing even though I don’t live in DC, just so I can feel important enough to get an invitation? Or you could invite my cousin! He lives in DC! That wouldn’t be weird at all. “Hey…so I’m Alex. I’ve never met your cousin Bethany in real life, but we read each other’s blogs, so…you should come to this event so she can vicariously live through you. Don’t worry about it.” Hahahahaha.

Also, if you’re ever looking for another baller hip hop video to post on the blog, might I recommend this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en6xdlAFM3I . That guy with the dreads? Yeah, he’s one of my breakdance teachers right now. Ain’t no thang. *brushes shoulder off, as if she were in any way up to his level of dance, which she is NOT in ANY, ANY WAY. Woof. I’ve got the bruises on my arm to prove it. “Oh, don’t worry guys. This freeze is totally easy. It just looks hard,” he says as he goes up into some ridiculous one-armed forearm-stand (like a hand stand, but on your forearm instead of using your hands). LIES. ALL LIES.*

    • Well now I can get zero work done. ahhh that video. Also I have to admit, don’t tell anyone, I thought of you when writing this whole post. One because you are break dancing queen in my book and I was hoping it would convince you to come visit me. Did it work? that show is my favorite, I want to be on it so bad. First i need skills though. You should hit a gym, I have already moved up in weights which feels freaking good. Now i am off to watch that video over and over….

  28. I would NEVER EVER EVER trade my morning work out FOR ANYTHING… ANY day of the week!!! What I would trade is that feeling of being exhausted prior to my work out – Now that’s not all that motivating! Luckily I convince my brain into thinking I will feel AMAZING prior to my work out… And you know what, I am not actually tricking myself because it’s the COMPLETE and UTTER truth!!

  29. Omg that dog photo clip at the end had me dying!! I NEED to try compression socks dammit!! I would trade cold weather for some sun. I am so boring, but it’s so true.

  30. you WIN for including a little rascals GIF. omfg.
so cool that you got to meet with that expert. i would be soooo nerding out if i got to meet an expert in my field! i feel that.
lifting really does feel great, keep at it, i’m sure you will since the wonderful feeling is coming from doing it more regularly!

  31. At least you had a great thing in your Monday – the run! Love the freaking corgi jumping into the water. Love dogs haha

  32. I hope you aren’t getting sick! And I’m glad you had such a great Monday run :)

  33. Loving the positivity, girl. Yay for Monday being done too! I’m so happy that you had a great run – that is just the best feeling and your distances always amaze me (and I’m training for a half, so that’s saying something!) Haha have a good day, Alex!

  34. I wouldn’t trade getting to see my sisters and mom today! Love this idea, thanks for sharing=)

  35. I want to see a video of you hip hop dancing now! :) Your runs sound amazing! Wish I could run 9 miles and still walk!!! Yay for strength training!!!

  36. I wouldn’t trade the feeling of lifting either!! I wish we could all get together and workout. That would be so much more fun!!

  37. haha I have had some absolutely disgusting dessert attempts ! You’ll get it ! That sounds like a great run too good job. Since I started lifting too I feel awesome, even if it just is 5-8lbs I get better every time and I love that feeling. Goodluck at that meeting!!

  38. I would love to see a video of you doing anything .. dancing perhaps? hahaha

  39. I love SYTYCD!! Thanks for indulging me. :P I’m glad you’re lifting and feeling awesome about it, Alex! You’re gonna be a powerhouse for the half. I would not trade the boy coming to visit next week and training for the half. :)

  40. Oh no your poor donuts… at least you tried though dear :)

I would trade having to mop our living room floors for someone else to come do it for me. Usually I love cleaning, but the thought of mopping right now sounds terribblee!!!

  41. I would not trade the stack of pancakes I just ate [so typical of me, right?]… Or chasing Charlie around the apartment this morning- that dog has way too many toys. I would trade up the tummy troubles I’m having. Talk about a craptastic feeling… It’s quite shitty. XO

  42. HAHAHa those clips with the dogs….dying of laughter. Loved this spin on Trade em Up Tuesday, seems despite the busyness of life you’re finding some great things about it lately. I kinda like sharing space with coworkers too, at my internship I sat at the front desk aka far away from everyone else and it sucked, oh well lol. Right now I wouldn’t trade living in Colorado – it’s early February and it’s literally been in the 50s and 60s and sunny every single day since I got back after Christmas. At home in PA it’s cloudy and cold this time of year! I would trade being super sick today – I just hate feeling too crappy to be productive (I had to cancel physical therapy, postpone a grad school interview, and call out of work), but not so crappy that I don’t care. Bleh. Oh well, here’s to a better day tomorrow!
