MIMM: Mental Reminders

Monday sneaks up a lot these days, doesn’t it? I wish I could say this week is a little less crazy but I have four 12+ hour days ahead. Full speed ahead friends.

thehealthydiva

Marvelous is… a 10 mile run on Saturday with Molly that fulfilled the needy side of me. But boy did we slaughter our legs. I am pretty sure we ran uphill the whole time with a pretty speedy pace. She knows how to whip me in racing shape for sure. (Be sure to watch the whole video, you won’t regret it)

Marvelous is… realizing a healthy distance has to be found. You can’t win all battles, you can’t make people realize what they don’t want to realize, period. Rather than beating a dead bush, I have found it is sometimes better to put those blinders on and move on. Reduce the contact, selfish but a necessary selfish.

Marvelous is… a new obsession.

Marvelous is… watching the Superbowl solely for their ads. Sure the football game was on but I barely even glanced at the tv during that time. I watch the game for the ads, it is the advertising girl in me that loves seeing the new approaches companies are throwing out. Plus, my old marketing professor from college tweets throughout the Superbowl about the ads – highly entertaining and always spot on. (High school musical was on at the same time doing their ‘learn the moves’ so it was a tough switch back and forth going on. )

Marvelous is… being able to chat with my sister on the phone. I miss that goober a whole freaking lot. I love catching up on what is going on in her college life, the new research job she landed and hilarious boy stories. She did mention her relationship was tested with her boyfriend when they assembled an Ikea dresser. True test people.

Marvelous is… a sense of humor. Oh boy did I get and need some quality laughs this weekend. I have my blends to thank for that.

Marvelous is… the shift at work on Sunday flying by. It was busy but not too busy. It just seems like work has been flying by when I am there, must mean I am getting used to the groove.

Marvelous is… taking time to smell the roses, or the icicles I guess. Saturday was my last day for the next month or more that I won’t have to work either job. Ouch. But that means I ended up just exploring some local shops and areas I had not been. Pure zone out time for me but exactly what I needed. (Hilarious clip) (This one is even better)

Marvelous is… for once having this desire to be social. Weird, makes me sound like a bit of a freak but I spent the majority of the last six years perfectly content in isolation. Since moving to DC, since kind of finding more of my voice, all I have wanted to do is get out there. I may not have made great strides yet but having even the remote desire to feels crazy new for me.

Marvelous is… a ticket booked home. Boo ya, I bit the bullet and bought myself a ticket for a long weekend at the end of March to go home. Yes, it may just be a weekend but that is all I can really afford to miss for work. Plus, it wasn’t too expensive. Boston here I come… well in two months.

Today I work both jobs aka the Mondays from hell. BUT I am not complaining. Instead I will just give it a woof. I am trying people, I am trying.

Question: What is marvelous about your Monday?

  1. Welllll, it’s still Sunday night over here, but I’m planning on making it a marvelous Monday by learning The Creep. Holy.wow did that one have me laughing – the Gotye song too. Good luck with your Monday, girlie… if things start going bad, just bust out the boombox ;)

  2. Lots of marvellous here Alex! The 10-miler sounds fun but ouch on the legs, scaling hills is always brutal. So happy you booked a ticket home, it’s great to have something to look forward to and I bet your family can’t wait to get you back – even if it is short but sweet. Haha HSM dances. I actually learned one of them (I can’t remember which, it was YEARS ago *cough*) and then prompty forgot it. I was then super annoyed at myself for forgetting it. That didn’t happen when I mastered the camel from Hairspray, I can tell you. That move is deep rooted in my brain and yes it does make an appearance when I’m dancing along in my flat ;)

    • Like I am supposed to believe it was years ago, ya right. Haha I would so learn a full dance now if i owned it, no joke. That would be my Friday nights. We need a dance party because I am dying to learn that move. Couldn’t agree more, rolling hills are brutal, we didn’t feel it until the end when we were like wow hit by a bus status

  3. I would be a bold-faced liar if I said that I’m not a HUGE closet HSM lover. Shame? A little. But I mean, come on, with my massive Call Me Maybe and Beauty and a Beat obsessions, it’s pretty much expected.
And healthy distances. Yes. A must. Because realizations made on their own are those that will be lasting. I guess it’s just hard to accept that fact, but accept I must.

    • I have to say, the music is so darn catchy. Kills me every time. I could watch it for ages. I thought you would like that healthy distances, after our convo last night I realized that is where it has to be found. Easier said than done for sure though

  4. Had I known that High School Musical was on, my night may have looked a little different. Kind of kidding, but not really. I love that movie. I am so impressed by your 10 miler, way to go, girl!

  5. Lots of marvelousness in this post :) ! Something marvellous about my Monday- ticking through my to-do list..productive start to the week!

  6. i love that gotye video lol. oh and as for being selfish sometimes being necessary – obviously we agree on this one as we discussed. keep on keeping on because i am doing the same damn thing – gotta protect ourselves first and foremost.

    • we do, we really do. I think it is part of our nature and how we were raised but I am slowly learning that selfish is sometimes what you have to do. isn’t that video hilarious, stumbled on that gem friday night.

  7. Yay for talking to your sister and for going home! I also watched the commercials last night and HSM during the game. Camp Rock was on before those movies…it was a Disney day. Go kill it today!

  8. Good luck with your Monday. sounds like you’re off to a great start! Marvelous for me is having to get up super earlier to volunteer in the business building…. Why didn’t I sign up for a later time? :(

I hope you have a great time when you go home in March. Definitely a good idea.

  9. I love Super Bowl ads as well!! I’m happy that I ran 10 miles on Saturday followed by a 4 mile race on Sunday! Makes me feel extra good about my weekend!

  10. I’m really glad you’re able to go home for a short visit at least! I know that always makes me feel better knowing there’s something to look forward to even though it’s a short trip. It’s funny how all of a sudden connecting with people in the blog world that you honestly can relate to helps break you out of the isolation. I’m finding the same thing. Although keeping your distance from some is important if you feel like it isn’t helping you mentally. Hang in there this week! Never hesitate to reach out!

  11. I really like that Mademoiselle song! Such a different sound to it!

  12. Good luck with your crazy-long day today!
And yay for a trip home! A long weekend is better than nothing!

  13. Yay for going home! Who cares if it’s two months away?! Thank you for making my morning with Zac Efron…I was OBSESSED with High School Musical back when it first came out and have now fallen back in love. Ugh, you just made me miss my sister a lot – communicating through SnapChat just does NOT cut it. Hope you have a lovely Monday!

    • I am glad i could start your morning off right. we do snap chat too but I fail at actually doing it, I feel like there is a massive delay on it too. don’t know if you deal with that as well. Have a great Monday lady!

  14. I watched the super bowl solely for the ads as well! And for Halloween 2 years ago I was the Nicki Minaj character from “The creep”, good times! Glad you got a good long run in, hope your legs are feeling better!

  15. Heck yes for going home! And Do the Creep is the best! And I am glad you have great taste because that Mademoiselle song is amazing and I’m so glad you posted it.

  16. So glad you get to go home next month! That will be marvelous! Hope the Monday flies by for you :)

  17. haha omg the ikea dresser is totally the true test for a relationship!

  18. gotta love high school musical! I cant even tell you how many times I watched it when it first came out while babysitting!! Keep up that optimism girlfriend!

  19. Yay – a trip to look forward to! And I love how many people have commented about High School Musical.. I’m also a fan hahah. Hope your Monday is marvelous despite having to work so much!

  20. Aw! I love this post, Alex!
    It’s marvelous! :D
My monday? Hmm it’s marvelous, because it’s almost over. Hehehe!

  21. That I am alive! I had a dream last night that I got lung cancer. EKK!

  22. What’s marvelous…the weather here! Really can’t beat highs in the 60s in Feb.

  23. In so glad you get to go home in a little! That’s exciting :) marvelous about this Monday is the fact that I don’t have my other job tonight! So I get to relax and watch the new season of Rules of Engagement. Premier tonight!! :)

  24. I definitely watched the Super Bowl for the ads as well. Well, that, and as a great excuse to eat lots of junk food (which I am PAYING FOR today. There’s a woof for ya. Toooooo much pizza in the tummy, and of course I brought leftover pizza for lunch, even though that’s about the LAST thing I want to put in my face right now. Woof again.). Taco Bell’s was definitely tops for me, followed by Budweiser. I guess it’s good I don’t have cable, because it would be tough choosing between HSM and the Super Bowl ads, ESPECIALLY the HSM dancealong edition. So much good.

    • I kind of wish I could have attended a party because I had zero party food, sad day. Taco Bell was weird, I didn’t get it. Like why that song in another language? I don’t know not a fan. Don’t even get me on how I gagged during the go daddy one. Gross.

  25. I totally love high school musical! I love the learn the dance moves version of the movie, in high school I convinced our ASB to do the “We’re all in this together” dance at a rally. One of my greatest achievements from high school ;) Hang in there today!

  26. My marvelous is vacation dreaming today!!! I miss HSM being popular haha so much better than some of the popular stuff now

  27. Hooray for long weekends at home (even if it’s not for another 2 months)! You definitely deserve (and understandably would need) an opportunity to have a few days off and to re-charge with the fam. Let your mom take care of you (moms love doing that when their adult children visit), hang out with your sister, get a pedicure — basically, allow yourself to get pampered and relax. You’ve more than earned it! In the meantime though, hang in there!

  28. I’m happy you booked a trip to go home! I’ve actually been missing Boston quite a bit but can’t bring myself to go back and visit just yet. The Celtics are playing the Denver Nuggets this weekend and thanks to my ex I am a HUGE Celtics fan! I can’t wait to be a traitor and root for the Celtics at a bar full of Nuggets fans this weekend! The most marvelous thing about my Monday is having an article I wrote go up on a really cool website! Have a great day, Alex!

  29. So happy you will get to go home the end of March girl! I know you are counting down the days!! <3

  30. Haha, I don’t think anyone actually watches the superbowl for the football any more! I don’t even watch it for the ads–just for the excuse for seven-layer dip. Mmmm, DIP is marvelous!

  31. I’m with you on the super bowl ads. I love the messages and the whole psychological part behind the different methods. Way more interesting then football!

  32. Marvelous is getting new running shoes! And super bowl leftovers ;-)

  33. YAY so glad you splurged and got that ticket to go home. That will power you through the remaining days til you get to be at home with your fam!!!
OMG the 100th digital short killed me. Still kills me every time. Will Ferrell’s part is just classic. “Count ‘em bitch”. Love it.
Wait, HSM has learn the moves?! I MUST TRY.

  34. Ahh I’m so pumped for you for being able to go home!! That’s awesome, love :) Being social, sister chats, and runs with Molly make me smile for you too :)

  35. Sounds like you have a lot of great things in your life! (besides the 12 hr work days) Yay for getting a chance to go home, too!! Soak it up, girl.

  36. yay for going home!! and for being social again! it’s totally hard to do when your so comfortable by yourself.. every now and then i still struggle with that and my one friend reminds me to stop and just come out ! i def no what you mean about having to take a healthy distance.. i have friend since 3rd grade but not gonna lie shes just a pos friend but i always kept her around because i felt i needed to since we known eachother for so long but for the every 3 months i talk to her it’s not even exciting so i been slowly selfishly trying to let it go and avoid her because she just brings abs nothing to the table for my life which is what friends are for so!

  37. yep I totally watched HSM when it was all the rage. I have a thing for singing and dancing though. Like seriously I love the cheesiest movies, but they all have some sort of singing and dancing in it!

  38. I think that’s the 1 reason I like the superbowl haha the commercials are always fun to watch. However, this year I was kinda glued to Rugrats ;) hahaha I DID see that High School musical was on! Good choice my friend ;)

  39. You’re working for a month straight? Did I read that right??? Omg! I’d seriously lose it!

  40. YEAHHHHH you get to go home!!! Oh man, short as it is that is gonna be a NICE break for you for sure. And now that your sis is back from study abroad you can talk to her more frequently, AND love all this social-butterfllyness happening! I think that’s what happens when you finally gain your voice and self-confidence, you just wanna put it out there :-D happy for you on that front for sure. ANd I agree with distancing yourself from people who aren’t helping you, who are dragging you down, who ask you for help but never take your advice….you have to look out for yourself and do what’s best for you above all others. Sounds selfish but hey – its YOUR life and YOUR happiness and that matters most!

    • I am pretty pumped, just being able to spend four days not working will be oh so glorious. the distancing part is hard, you almost have to act selfish but remember that in the end it is for the better. thanks for the reminder!

  41. it’s okay. I’m pretty sure not many people cared for the two teams that played. this years ads though .. I wasn’t amazingly impressed. there were only a good handful that were … good. yay for your booked trip home!! you can then sit on the couch with your mum and sissy and watch telly! :)

  42. I love the reminder about keeping your distance. This one was hard for me to grasp for a long time, but when I started letting go of negative people and things in my life, it made more room for the positive. Sometimes it hurts, but it’s for the best. :)

  43. The Creep is the funniest Lonely Island song ever…love the dance that goes along with it! Oh, and I definitely watched the Superbowl only for the ads because I am an advertising nerd and I knew my ad professor would be going over the ads today in class–I did miss most of them though because I was driving back to my apartment but it wasn’t a huge loss.

    • All of those snl shorts I could watch for days, no joke. I am a big snl fan. yep that is exactly what my professor would do as well, she would always do a debrief the next day, sadly this year was a bummer on the ad front for me

  44. I watched the Super Bowl solely for the commercials as well, some of them were pretty funny!

  45. Alex, this post had me laughing and realizing that I can do anything that I can put my mind too.

My Monday was marvelous because I had the chance to observe an older adult class focused on balance that I will soon be teaching. I’m craving experience in the field I am studying, and am thrilled I will soon get the opportunity to practice public health!

  46. I watched the Super Bowl for the commercials/Beyonce concert, so I am right there with you! :)
