In This Moment

Oh man really? Back to work? What a shame. Two days working from home sure were a treat. I can’t deny that.

Currently…

… thankful that Sandy did not damage or cause power outages in my building. I am hoping all the other east coasters are safe and sound. The damage in NY and NJ is horrific.

…pooped after my first ever treadmill workout. Who is that at the gym? I woke up Tuesday thinking I would do nada. Somehow my body found its way in the gym doing a 40 minute interval treadmill workout. Holy sweat was I dying, I don’t think I have kicked it that hard in a while. Lesson learned: I need to do that more often. It was actually the first time in my apartment gym which is kind of sweet. Ignoring the creepy man that just walked around staring at all the girls working out. NO JOKE.

…scheming a break out around 2 pm. I am a tad stir crazy and need to get out. Luckily there is no wind, just some drizzle so I should be fine. I am going to see what is open. Not going to lie, I got an email about World Market having a 50% off sale ONLY  today. It better be open! (Edit: I did venture out, did a lot of walking around but sadly no fun purchases at World Market!)

…crossing my fingers that mentor sessions will be cancelled Wednesday and Thursday night. Tuesday’s was obviously cancelled because there is no school in DC. I think it may be a long shot to have schools cancel again but you never know. Do you know what that would mean? That would mean coming home from work at 6 pm instead of 830 pm. HOLLA!

… craving some roasted squash. I had the best roasted squash last night. Nom nom. I want more.

…wishes Halloween candy could just appear. Like now.

… forcing myself to NOT start a new tv show on Netflix. We all know how that went last time… the last thing I need is another time suck. Don’t do it Alex, walk away!

…writing tidbits of my post for Sloane’s #freEDom campaign for next Tuesday. It is reminding me of why I starting blogging.

… annoyed that the heat in my apartment isn’t working because the paint has made the buttons on the heater stick. Also, I don’t pay for the heat so the building controls it meaning it is chilly up in here.

Can’t say I have not enjoyed the last two days working from home. I felt so much more productive and rested than I have in a while. Take out the two hour or more metro travel and you really get a huge time chunk back. Plus, internet at my work is like molasses so having speedy internet just helps all projects move along. Why can’t working from home be a requirement? I have a feeling getting back into Wednesday routine will hit hard, real hard.

Questions: What are your plans for this hump day? Are you more productive or less productive when you can work from home?

  1. Definitely a big fan of working from home, and aside from when I’m at Starbucks, it’s probably the place where I get the most work done – I have no idea how that works, but I’ll take it :D And that’s definitely really creepy about the old guy in your apartment gym… Thankfully, the gym at my place is pretty much always abandoned, but there were a couple of months there where an old guy would come in and seriously stink the place up. I honestly felt like I was going to die, and even breathing through my mouth did nothing to help

  2. I look forward to reading your words SO much, but your pictures always get SUCH a laugh out of me!! I love using them to either put me to bed in a fabulous mood or wake me up with a smile on my face!
I also love the happy and optimistic vibe coming from this and am hoping you’re riding the happy feeling and are not masking uncertainty!! Life plans can wait if you’re enjoying the moment.
I will wish you all the fabulous Halloween candy your adorable self can handle. Here’s to actually enjoying the fact that there’s a day in our calendar where people throw free sweets at us instead of avoiding the day like the plague!! #freEDom

  3. I had to work from home for almost a month and in the process discovered I am absolutely useless unless I’m in an office environment surrounded by co-workers. That being said, I loved having the extra time that would have otherwise been spent in traffic and I liked being able to take little breaks to cook, workout or do laundry… it was really hard to get back into the 9-5 routine after that.

  4. Oh goodness I would love to be able to work from home! But like the comment above, I like the interaction with co-workers and my customers. Sometimes. :)
That’s awesome about your treadmill workout! And as for halloween candy, I am already seeing Christmas candy at the stores! Crazy!
    Happy Halloween!

  5. Oh I’m glad Sandy didn’t cause you too much harm! Treadmill workouts kill me WAY more than outside runs. I don’t know why! haha. And there is ALWAYS a creepy guy. The one at my gym wears a tight white shirt, jeans and a pageboy cap. To work out in.

  6. i’m already counting down the days til tuesday because i can’t wait to read your post. that being said, way to be a badass on the treadmill, way to survive sandy, and way to text me to keep me entertained throughout :)

  7. i am always way more productive at home too, i wonder why that is!? i’m glad you came out of sandy mostly unscathed – my thoughts have been with you and everyone else on the east coast! and i’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that your mentoring sesh’s get cancelled ;-) hope you have a stellar rest of the week!!

  8. I love that image about what changes a woman’s mood…yup, that is very, very, true :-p

Excited to see what you have for next Tuesday! I’ve been working on mine myself – it’ll be an awesome reveal day :-D

  9. I am totally with you. People should be allowed to work from home if their job doesn’t require them to meet with people all the time. sigh…

  10. Alex! First I want to say.. I FEEL LIKE WE HAVENT TALKED IN FOREVAA!!! :( :(

Okay moving on.. You sound like you are in such a great place right now. I don’t know what it is, maybe your treadmill workout, your awesome squash or working from home.. but you seem so happy hunnie. i LOVE it! I can hardly wait to hear what you have in store for us next Tuesday.

  11. I wish working from home was a requirement. I feel so much more productive and relaxed!

  12. Even though we’ve been talking about how much we hate the treadmill, I definitely agree you can get a sweaty workout from them! I’m glad Sandy didn’t hit you hard. I think it would be ideal to work from home….maybe I’ll add that to the list of things my future job should have? Ha, ha

  13. Unfortunately, in my line of a work I don’t really have a work from home option. It might be a good thing because I’m not sure how productive I would actually be! My plans for today is to watch John dress up in his fireman gear and hand out candy to the kids. He gets so into it!

  14. So glad you enjoyed working from home for a couple days! Good luck getting back into the normal Wednesday routine, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

And a creepy guy just watching all the girls work out? What the..?

  15. I totally agree about needing a break! Being inside for like 4 straight days is not helping!

  16. Haha! Creepy guy staring at girls at the gym. I did a blog post a couple weeks ago on the 10 characters you’ll meet at the gym. The creepy dude is one of them. Nothing like looking in the mirror while doing a squat and seeing the creepy toothless old dude staring at your butt! Urgh!

  17. I like working from home sometimes, but I really miss the office environment today because it’s Halloween and I miss the fun treats and everyone dressing up. I’m pretty productive both places, but I am a little lonely at home and out of my element. I may return to an office environment someday, it’s neat to have the option to do both and I wish I had that. Glad everything is safe and okay with you after Sandy!

    • I wish my office did something fun for the holiday, totally depends on where you work. I think some places the office is more of a social environment than mine is. We don’t even take lunch breaks around here.

  18. boo back to work for me too!! Jealous you could get in a run yesterday, my workout consisted of walking around checking out the damages!

  19. I’m a huge fan of working from home, aka wearing PJs/sweats all day. ;)

  20. I love working at home and have been doing it a lot lately. Glad you are enjoying it friend. Have a great Halloween!

  21. That candy corn is adorable! And I’m with you. I would rather run 5 miles outside and 2 on the dreadmill :)

  22. I want to go home now and make that candy corn into real corn….{sigh} And I wish I could work from home .. alllways

  23. Bahahahaha that candy corn picture. Too good. Part of me feels like I should buy Halloween candy in case there are kiddos trick or treating around my building today…a bigger part of me realizes that the real reason I want to buy Halloween candy is so I can eat all of it myself hahaha. Soo I probably won’t be buying Halloween candy. Plus that would involve walking the whole two blocks to the grocery store, and I simply can’t be bothered with that madness :p . My parents sent me a package last week–I had received important mail at home, and instead of just forwarding it on to me they put it in a box and and included candy in the mailing. They sent me Crunch bars and Baby Ruths, which I really don’t like, so I was like, “I know! I can use these if we get trick or treaters! Score!” Somehow, though, nearly all of that candy has disappeared…and somehow the wrappers ended up in my trash can. SO strange! ;)

    • I wish I had a package sent my way, I won’t even bother to buy halloween candy. i am that person though that will buy it in about a month when it goes on crazy sale prices. I hate chocolate but I love all chewy candy. I know I am that weird. I wonder what happened to that candy? Sounds like you have a bad case of the candy monster on your hands.

  24. I agree- we all needed that break. Even if you did have to work from home, at least you could do it in pajamas if you wanted! Plus, extra sleeping/relaxing time without the commute. I’m excited to see what you post next Tuesday.. the suspense is killing me :)
Maybe a new TV show would be good for the mind? To turn it off, that is! Good luck with the routine- it’s always so hard after a mini vacation from reality!

  25. What if lucky Charms would sell just the marshmallows, and it was 50% off?! I’d die.

  26. I wish Halloween candy would just magically appear for me too! I am much more productive when I work at home, mostly because I don’t feel so confined to my desk and “mad” that I HAVE to be there, rather it’s more like I’m choosing to work, choosing where I work, if I have music on in the background, etc.

  27. I’m so glad that you have enjoyed working from home and there is no damage to your building!! I was thinking of you!

  28. I’m glad you are safe! And I’m way less productive when I work at home…

  29. I tend to be less productive working from home, I get more distracted and there’s no one that can see me so I don’t feel like I have to look like I’m doing something. Glad you’re alright!

  30. I now low interval workouts. I never did them until a few months ago and they feel like such a better workout than just going a stagnant pace the whole time! Today I am working and then going to a halloween party at my friends house tonight.

  31. Ooooh gosh… I LOL’d at the ‘what changes a woman’s mood’….. 50% discount does it for me every time!!

  32. I work in the city and we are still without power- so no work for me until at least Monday- On a good note though, I finally got myself off the lazy couch and to the gym for the first time this week! Woot!

  33. Working from home is great but sometimes I just need a change of scenery. That’s where Starbucks comes in! Oh, and that’s awesome about the discount at World Market, you know I’m all over great sales like that. I just wish my favorite stores would have sales more often.

  34. Interval workouts are no joke!
For me, I’m more productive in an actual work space. If I’m at home, I get distracted by so many things!
Oh, and I’m loving that candy corn on the cob picture. I believe all corn should be of the candy variety. ;)

  35. ohh man working from home sounds WONDERFUL. And treadmill workouts…wow, props. I hate the TM sooo much, but that’s awesome you jumped on it and did intervals no less! SOMEONE is going to be running a pretty speedy half marathon soon :-D I feel ya on the halloween candy….and missing halloween really bad….that was an epic twitter conversation this morning lol, I wish we could all get together and have a halloween party!!

    • I was surprised I lasted on the treadmill, it has been a while for sure. I loved our twitter convo, we would all have killer costumes and oh so delicious candy. I missed having candy on halloween, it was a bummer to say the least

  36. I spent my Wednesday baking bread, making soup, playing with my daughter, reading the bible and catching up on blogs. I might have the best life ever. :-)

I’ve never had a job where I worked from home. I think I would like it though.
