MIMM: Let’s Be Real

This Sandy deal has put me in one sour mood. Add in homesickness you got one nasty case of the Mondays. To be honest, I will most likely run outside Monday morning early unless it is super bad, which I doubt. (I know my fellow blogger has the same plans, glad crazy isn’t contagious because you all would catch it)

After my run on Sunday there was still no rain, just some wind but nothing extreme. It only started drizzling around 6 when I was walking home from work. I have no clue what Sandy has up her sleeves but I have a feeling this week will be about going with the flow and adapting to whatever is in store. I have a few updates that I have been uh… declining to mention. I realized it was about time because bottling it all up does nothing for the mind. Lesson learned. Here we go… (anyone start playing ‘here we go, one more time, everybody feelin fine..?) Just me?

Marvelous… that my GI doctor is taking my flare up seriously. I haven’t really mentioned but I have been emailing with him quite a lot. My symptoms have not only worsened, but I have had new ones. My energy is off, my food is not digesting, my hungry is non-existent and my rash has spread and worsened. I was worried because I would hate my body to not be getting the nutrients it needs because of this flare up. Enter overhaul. He is having me change around what I eat, avoid certain things and add some things in. I am actually happy with the changes but not going to lie, a bit worried about my grocery bill come next week. He has been super helpful in guiding me towards the gluten free options that are budget friendly. I only hope this works.

Marvelous… I let the tears flow. I think in my state of just annoyance with my stomach and exhaustion, I kept plastering this smile on my face. Enter Saturday night after work and I just wanted to crumble. I realize I am just totally underestimating how much of my day I spend on my feet now, moving around and doing work.

Marvelous… I get to work from home today, will most likely have my work from 6-8 pm at the running store cancelled and could possibly have work from home on Tuesday as well. The funny part is my boss made a point in her email to mention that we are NOT off but rather working remotely. Aka get shit done.

Marvelous…I just ordered a new pair of running shoes. I decided to of course stick with my Mizunos (4+ years in this brand) but decided to go with less stability support. Instead of the Inspires, I decided to go with the Wave Riders. I think some of my foot pain and quick breakdown of shoes are due to the fact I don’t need that much support. Want to see the gems I got for 50 bucks? Oh so me.

Marvelous… we are almost into November. Hurry up November because I need Thanksgiving!

Marvelous… my work introduced to the best site alive for employees. This site allows employees to get up to 60% off wholesale of ALMOST EVERY TYPE of athletic brand, even stuff like North Face. All you have to do is take the training modules for a brand and you get the discounts. Last night I did Mizunos 20 minute training and now I can get my $125 running shoes for $50 bucks. No joke.

Marvelous… that I am slowly realizing when something is broken it can be fixed. As hard as it to acknowledge, we can always pick ourselves up. Sorry team for the vagueness, just kind of hit a mood low and trying to move past it.

To my knowledge, most of the big cities are shut down today so I hope all you lucky folks have a great day without work. I am just hoping the power doesn’t go out because with no entertainment besides little old me, life could get boring real fast. Oh and don’t forget the fact all of my food needs to be cooked to be consumed. Wuh oh.

Questions: What is marvelous about your Monday? Any fun things planned to get through this weather?

  1. Alpaca picture. I approve.

  2. Love the shoes. So jealous that you get them for major discounts! Is it only for where you work? Hopefully you can catch up on sleep with this hurricane even though you still have to work… at least you won’t be able to be on your feet as much (even if it means we can’t run which is pretty much the end of the world) so you’ll have somewhat of a break!

    • This storm will definitely make life slow down a bit for all of dc so that is great. I get discounts on all sorts of sports brands so really it is a massive array of products and shoes. Kind of stoked.

  3. Oh the meltdowns I’ve had because of stomach issues – I’m feeling you on that one girl, and I know how frustrating it can be when you don’t know exactly what the heck is going on. I hope the diet mods help you because stomach woes alone are enough to make everything else seem like it completely sucks. Big hugs. Be careful in the storm. You’re not allowed to let anything bad happen to you.

    • Thanks Amanda, right now we just have rain so let’s hope it doesn’t get that bad. Who knows to be honest. I wish I could just find what my stomach can handle and what sets off this terrible moments. Thanks for all your support girl, means a lot

  4. What is the website? I want to know all about it! I have stomach issues too that is why I eat mostly vegan/raw, puree of vegetables, soups and only one meat a day or else my stomach and energy levels go crazy! Around where I live they have something called the Farm Box where for 20$ you get a whole box of organic fruits and vegetables. Very affordable and definitely foods you can eat! Look into the alkaline/acid diet, that helped my stomach issues. Love and Shine CourtStar

    • You have to work at a certain sponsored running store to be able to get access to this website deals. It is pretty sweet. Thanks for the great advice, I am interested to hear about how you solved your stomach issues and what really triggers it. I am just sick of not being able to eat much.

  5. 1. I’m completely jealous of your new shoes, and all the discounts your gonna be getting. They hiring?? I’d so make the trip to & from D.C just to work with you & get some deals (okay maybe not haha)
    2. LOVE THAT YOUR DOCTOR IS WORKING WITH YOU! What a sweet sweet guy. I don’t have a doubt in my mind that y’all won’t figure out what’s going on & get you feeling 1000x better!
    &&
    3. GIRL BE SAFE THIS WEEK!! If you need to talk at all, just email or text me!

    • Ha, they are hiring too bad you don’t live closer. they would love a runner to work there too. I am lucky about this doctor, I just answers to be honest. I will keep in touch, let’s hope nothing gets too bad here

  6. Love your new kicks- all about the neon colors :) !

  7. Love your new shoes. I need to try something different I seem to be killing my running shoes way too fast!! Good luck with the storm. I hope it is way more mild then predicted!

  8. I’m SOOOO glad you’re in such close touch with your GI doctor — our doctors/dietitians aren’t allowed to practice or give advice via email, I’m jealous of that. I’m really glad he’s so invested in helping you not only health-wise, but budget-wise as well. THAT’S the kind of doctor I love (not the kind of doctor who uses his privileges/arrogance to skip lines/cut corners/make actually sick patients wait longer than they have to — sorry, pet peeve).
OH MY, GIRL. OH MY!! I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about the deals on the gear because I might just explode with jealousy. Good choice on the Mizunos, esp. the Wave Riders — I have them and the Enigmas, and while I like the Enigmas for speedworks, the Wave Riders are still my faves overall (chose to race in them this weekend over the Enigmas actually, it surprised my teammates, and yes, we do talk about things like that).
Being on your feet can be SUPER exhausting, especially at the start. You’ll get used to it, but don’t underestimate the need for extra snacks. Your tummy issues could be playing into your standing fatigue too, in that case.
Take care of yourself and be safe — with Sandy and with the rest of your life too.

    • Thanks Chelsie, hopefully Sandy isn’t headed your way. I am super lucky about this GI doctor, I just am really sick of feeling so stomach blah so this is a big relief. Let’s hope things help, it is kind of hard though with all the food restrictions.

  9. I’m packing up in my hotel room wearing my shiny new Marine Corps Marathon medal! Thankfully, Sandy held off and it was a great, uh, Marvelous day!

    Stay safe!

  10. Way to go on the Mizunos. That’s a great discount.
Hope you’re feeling better – stay safe.

  11. I hope the hurricane isn’t too bad down there. I hope the doctor can help you with that. I know how frustrating and more annoying then anything it must be. Thinking of you!

  12. Oh. Em. Gee. Those Mizunos! You deserve ‘em lady! I spent the weekend preparing for Hurricane Sandy–which has significantly damaged my bank account, ha!–so I’m lying low today. Plan to run this morning before it gets bad. Have a great work-from-home day, Alex! :)

  13. Ok, firstly, wow about the discounts with your job. I would kill for something like that (poor uni student, you know). Secondly, so happy to hear your doctor is helping you out! That must totally suck having to reevaluate your whole diet for like the upteenth time! Hope Sandy isn’t too bad for you and everything is ok! xxx keep me updated!

  14. I used to have the wave riders – loved them, too! I hate cold weather!! UGH!

  15. Hey Alex, you’re not alone! I live in the DC area as well and was forced to stay home from work today as well. My boyfriend is a professional firefighter so he is off working and I’m all alone! No food to eat without power, either. Just wanted to let you know that I’m in the same boat!

  16. Thinking of you in DC now as I’m home from work too- but not really working. I love the shoes- they suit you! and WOOHOO for major discounts! and I would not be happy if the power went out. Hopefully it’s not as bas as everyone thinks it will be. Fingers are crossed! Else I’ll be doing crafts by the candlelight haha!

    • I know, I am so surprised with all they closed. No idea that would happen, my run this morning was just rain so it seems like people may be overreacting but it should get bad tonight I guess. We will see. I wish I had crafts, I will be bored silly.

  17. I’m jealous of your new shoes and the crazy awesome discounts you get at the running shoe store for being an employee- hopefully that will save you some money right? But then I guess you might spend more so maybe not… self-control is overrated, though. Be safe with Sandy coming in and good luck with everything, keep us updated!

  18. I LOVE that last quote…it’s so true. I’m so jealous you get Mizunos for cheap! Maybe I should consider working at a running store – I’d save a ton of money. I hope you got out for your run – I was a baby and ran on the treadmill and did a long-ish run. The only good thing was that I got to catch up on the news. This weather is really screwing with my running and body! I’m starting to catch a cold :( Only a couple weeks left until Thanksgiving!

  19. Hope it is ok there. We don’t get weather like that here in Australia. OMG about your running shoes, that’s crazy I have never paid only $50 for shoes, and they are very pretty which I say is also very important hehe… Btw I found u on twitter land, yes I just started one, feel free to follow me back @Simply_Auds hehe :-)

  20. I know how you feel about the stomach issues. Mine is a constant on-and-off thing. I feel like I’m slowly improving, but I think that there are still a few more foods that I am eating that I am just not doing well with.

Your GI doctor sounds fantastic! I wish the two that I saw were like that. My first one told me that I had a “sensitive” stomach and then tried to load me up with tests, pills and this herbal stuff imported from another country. Yikes. My second GI doc was much better, and she actually helped me figure a few things out. Unfortunately I didn’t get to test out how good she actually was because I soon after found out about my food allergies. Now there isn’t a need to see a GI Doctor, but I’m sure I’ll see plenty in the future!!

I hope you keep us updated on all the changes you have to make and how you are feeling. It is a learning process for all of us and we are here for you! Have a great Monday :)

    • wow I didn’t realize you had such a past with stomach issues, I would love to hear what worked for you. I hope you are starting to feel a difference with whatever the plan has been. Have a good monday as well!

  21. Ummm, I really, really really want that deal. My current workout clothes are old and I’m worried that they’re going to start falling apart at the seams.

Hope you’re having a good day working from home!

  22. i’m so proud of you for getting your run on this morning. you are such a bad ass, i can’t even stand it. also, let me know if you need anything re: your tummy troubles. if you need ingredients you can’t get, let me know and i’ll try to help! i can’t imagine dealing with flares and stuff and i’m crossing my fingers that the advice from your doc helps!

    • I hope he does as well, right now I just can’t find food that feels good on it and I am so sick of not getting good food in me. I am going to just keep working on it. You got a workout in so way to go on that! Busting it out per usual. Have a good day today away from work, I have a feeling you will be off tomorrow

  23. I am so sorry to hear about your flareup, Alex! I’m happy to hear though that you have a great doctor. It’s really cool that you can email him and that he’s even helping you find cheap food that sits well with your body. He clearly cares that you are staying nourished and healthy!
I’m happy to be home from work today too. Working from home is so relaxing and my office decided to close too, so I don’t even really have to work now haha.
Your new running shoes rock! Love that color!
I’m glad you got your good cry in. It really doesn’t help to bottle it all up. I find it easier to bounce back after I have a good cry than if I just hold it in.
    Stay safe!

  24. Just want you to know I’ve been wearing the same North Face fleece for the past five years because I can’t afford one. I’ve also been coveting a North Face rain jacket to replace the janky touristy one I’ve had for the past three years. I’m just sayin… ;)

Girl, I’ve been thinking about you with this crazy storm business! Actually when I was watching the Today Show this morning and they showed the radar with all sorts of angry looking colors right by D.C. my first thought was, “Oh man. I hope Alex didn’t run this morning.” Hahaha oh me of little faith! Glad you got your run in without dying, though. Stay safe, warm, and fed! Thoughts and prayers are with all of you on the East Coast!

  25. Good luck getting through this hurricane! I’m with you too, staying home today because class was cancelled due to the storm. I’m taking advantage and trying to catch up on some things. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having stomach issues again, hopefully you and your doctor can figure something out! And hopefully the added cost won’t be too bad with your new job helping out. $50 for mizunos!! That’s my kind of deal :)

  26. Stay safe girl! We are just dealing with the cold. Summer please come back!

  27. Happy Monday girl!

SOmetimes it is good to just let the tears flow, it is a great relief :)

I am super excited for Thanksgiving too! Family, yay!

Have a good day and stay safe!

  28. I hope you don’t get hit with anything too crazy in terms of weather! And so glad to hear you have a doc that takes you seriously and is interested in making changes and finding what works! That is unfortunately NOT easy to find :(

  29. So glad to hear your doctor is working with you! Love those shoes, I’ve been in the market for new ones lol Maybe I’ll check those out since you’re a runner and all :)

    Stay safe girl!

  30. Nothing like a good cry to feel better, seriously! I hope it helped!

  31. Well I spewed the tea I had just taken a sip of all over everything when I saw the alpacapillar meme! Seriously I’m dying!!
I’m so sorry to hear about your diet issues–that sounds YUCKALICIOUS but I’m really glad your doc seems to be taking you very seriously and really trying to help. That is totally not easy to find. So proud of you for letting some emotion out! It can be such a weight to carry around pent up frustration and anxiety, and a good cry can be incredibly healing.
You’re awesome and I can’t wait for tomorrow and Wednesday! xoxo

  32. I could not agree more with the hurry up November! this is hell week or me in terms of school. everyone was mad we didn’t get canceled. me? I was happy. I need this week to go as planned so it can be done and I can have a break!

  33. I so hope your GI-issues will get better this week,Alex! I know how awful digestive problems are; definitely something I would only wish my worst enemy… (Yes,I am mean!)

  34. Sorry to hear about the GI issues!! Hopefully the new diet will help out! I’m having a marvelous Monday because my friends are here with their Doggie- I think looking at dogs adorable faces could put anyone in a good mood!

  35. I hope the storm isn’t hitting DC too bad for ya! I’m really sorry about your tummy troubles. Stomach problems are just rough because they effect everything and even your mind. Hang in there!! Thanksgiving will be here in no time :)

  36. $50 bucks for those sneaks, girl look at chu getting a nice deal :) Plus, they look good! Stomach issues are not fun, heck they suck ass. Literally. Sorry I’m not sorry for swearing. I know how fustrating this is for you and I’m here 100%. (actually emailing you later girl ;) )! I’m very happy to know that you do have a GI that you’ve been keeping in touch with, this is a huge plus in terms of treatment and preventing/helping flare ups.

Hopefully you’re not currently floating around DC. We’ve got a nice pool in our backyard and you all are being hit much worse than us up in NH.

  37. That really sucks about your GI flare up but I’m glad your doctor is being helpful! I hope it clears up soon. :)

I sense a bit of a sad tone in parts of this post – I’m sorry if things have been a bit rough for you. But you have a great attitude about it! I’m glad you’re moving on and letting yourself be happy!
