Running on Empty

Missed my randomness? I sure did. It certainly does come easier when a jam packed week just drags the freak on…

  1. How am I already on Season 2 Episode 10 of the new 90210 when a. I only started Saturday night, b. I only watch it at night and c. I get home around 730 pm each night? What is worse, there are five seasons total. Oh shoot. I am getting way too invested, I seriously don’t watch real tv anymore, just this show. Insane. Alex go to bed.
  2. On that note, I have been freaking tired. Like drag myself from  my bed each morning knowing that an early morning run will wake me up. It sure does but that process of dragging myself to the door sucks.
  3. Eek I bit the bullet and finally registered for Rock n Roll half marathon DC in March. It was so tough to do it despite knowing I want to run it – gosh darn money guilt. (Why are races so expensive? Kills me)
  4. Finished Thirteen Reasons Why – adored it. Holy moses such a quick but powerful read. Powerful is an understatement.
  5. I don’t know what is up with me this week but work has just dragged.
  6. I am currently counting down the days to Thanksgiving break, why is it so darn far away?
  7. If anyone tells me they are watching Dexter I will punt kick you. I am extremely jealous because I adore that show yet do not have that channel. As many attempts as I have tried, I also can’t find a free way to watch it online. (My patent attorney mom would hate me for that)
  8. Surprise, surprise my stomach is on the fritz. Thank you stress.
  9. I officially got my offer letter from the running store and will be starting this weekend. Wahoo! Still need to get my official schedule with times for the weekend.
  10. I am already dreading slash looking forward to grocery shopping this weekend. I need a stock up, I am trying to forget what my wallet will say about this. I have finally realized I just can’t buy all the food I want or the more expensive items you see in the blog world, just not realistic on my budget at all.
  11. I miss mail. No one in my family sends me letters anymore, did I really grow up that fast?
  12. I didn’t watch the debate. Politics is something I struggle with. I know I know grow up Alex read a paper – maybe later?
  13. I am avoiding being deep in this post because honestly there is a lot to flush out.
  14. My cravings have hit the roof – always for random things. One day I would love to get some nice roasted brussel sprouts, other days I would kill for some whipped cream or sprinkles. I can’t even remember the last time I went to a froyo joint or bought myself any of the holiday goodies. Oh gosh and can I just have a diet coke please? I am lame.

Well that was officially a brain dump. It is that kind of week.

Questions: What is a Thursday thought you want to share? Any new obsessions?

  1. Oh that first cartoon, I about died. SO FUNY!!! I love “brain dump” posts. No new obsessions here, which is fine because I have plenty of old ones! LOL

  2. Apples. Apples are definitely a new obsession for me. I think I overdosed on them back in the day because I got sick of them and stopped eating them for a few months. Having a slice of my mom’s apple cake opened up freakin’ Pandora’s box though because since then I’ve been craving/eating apples like crazy…

  3. I should get a medal for not stabbing someone this week. Thank god it’s over for me. I mayyyyy have a free site you can watch Dexter on if you’re interested – its where I watch all my tv on (because I live so far away we are usually AGES behind you guys). I hope the rest of your week gets better and your stomach gets better again! And also, that relatable post – I feel like that just about every time I go outside because I tend to sing and dance as I’m walking/running. Seriously.

  4. RnR races are too freaking expensive! I said I wouldn’t do another one after RnRLV last year but I will. There are just other half marathons out there for like $40 so it’s hard to justify the cost of the RnR races. But they are fun!!!!!! So it’s awesome that you signed up, it is something you did for YOU!

P.S. I do watch Dexter, but don’t feel too bad. This season is not very good

  5. Green apples & cheddar cheese…I’m loving the combo lately!

  6. I’ve been dragging lately, too, but I think I’m out of my slump (fingers crossed). I slept in both Saturday and Sunday mornings and took Sunday totally off from exercise, which seemed to help. Also, so pumped you took the plunge and signed up for the marathon! Races can be pricy, but you should consider it an “investment” in your future self. Plus, it’s not like you’re out shopping and wasting money–you deserve to “splurge” on this marathon! :)

  7. New obsession — maple syrup on EVERYTHING!! And tillapia sandwiches at lunch, but those are less splendidly fabulous …
Saying you like 90210 is an understatement, but would you recommend it? I’m looking for a new show to watch. Any other shows that you enjoy that you’d recommend? (I’ve watched all my movies about 40 bajillion times…)
I’d love it if you could email me your address — I really, really want to send you some mail. :)
Go for the squash/pumpkin when you go shopping this weekend (if you’re into them) — super price effective this time of the year and they go a LONNNNNG way.
Thursday Thought — I am also not getting enough sleep fully of my own fault. This weekend of overnights is going to be ROUGH. But I don’t think I could give up anything that I’m doing during my day to get to bed earlier. Hmph.

    • squash prices are super cheap aka why they are my food of choice right now. makes me happy to say the least. I am so glad you are loving the maple syrup! i am a big fan as well. tilapia… man you are rolling! love that fish but so expensive here. I warn you, this show is addicting, like freaking addicting. oh gosh i don’t know how you do a weekend of overnights, I am dragging!

  8. Ughh races are sooo dang expensive, the longer the distance the more expensive! I mean that makes sense as far as race organization goes… but still I am poor and cheap lol
I have been dragging more and more too :( I simply need more sleep that is all it comes down to. Alas my body requires at least 8 hours and I have not been getting that… sleep comes to me during times I cannot rest, like during a class!

  9. for the record – i did not read this post before i also blogged about how ready i am for thanksgiving. further proof we are the same person? glorious. and i registered for the rnr half too! i’m crossing my fingers in an emphatic way that with your work schedule you have time to meet up this weekend because i’d love to discuss these things and all the other ways we are secretly twins.

  10. boo, i so wish i could still run it w/ you :( Maybe by than my period will be back?? Fingers crossed :) . So excited for you to start your new job this weekend. How stinking exciting girl!!

    E-mail me your address girl :) :)

  11. haha my hubby and i LOVE the new 90210!!! i thought we were the only ones who watched..

  12. Ah I’m so happy you signed up for a half!!!!

  13. I want to read 13 reasons why! it sounds good! I’m also so excited that you signed up for the half in DC! I want to do one of the rock and roll races because I feel like they would be super fun and well organized!

  14. This week is just annoying!! I hate how much $ races are, I still need to figure out if I can do that race! I would love to hang with u!!

  15. YAY! for running a marathon!!! I am going to have to read that book now!

  16. WAHHHHH. Sad face, you should have registed for the Shamrock in VA Beach instead of Rock and Roll! It is such a flat fast course and we could have run together (I’ll run that shit on a broken foot if neccessary…). Um anyways! Glad to hear you registered though! ;)

  17. Haha, I love your random posts! Why DOES it cost so much to run a race?? I mean, I know the money usually goes to a good cause, but seriously, the road’s already there, there aren’t a lot of overhead costs involved.

  18. RnR races are so much fun (I think you definitely get your money’s worth) but they are just sooo expensive it’s insane. Also, I can definitely steer you to some legit websites to watch Dexter for free. I’m a pro at finding free tv shows :)

  19. You certainly can have a diet coke! I get in a fix every week or two (like last night…mixed with rum…ahem). So I think I’ll be right there with you on the dragging aspect today. :-p

  20. omg I’m so with you on the Thanksgiving break count down lol even though it’s only 2 days off, at least I won’t have to come to work haha :)

  21. I enjoy the randomness! And I want to eat that whole bowl of sprinkles :)

  22. I’m counting down the days to thanksgiving break too! It will be exactly what I need to just let everything go and spend time with the fam :) that froyo/sprinkles concoction looks AMAZING and I need it right now.
Now that my paper’s done, I’ll be spending some quality time with my laptop to start watching episode upon episode of 90210. You’re right- so addicting!

  23. Totally feel you on race/grocery prices. Last week was a grocery disaster for me, and I’m not even sure how — I didn’t buy that much food! Rawr. As for races, it’s always best to look for races in small towns if you’re looking to keep the cost down. Obviously it’s a ton of fun to run big races in big cities, but they’re so pricey because it’s crazy expensive to put on a race in a big city. Bigger cities = more major roads to shut down, more permits to acquire, more police to hire, more people so more things needed to take care of those people (larger gear check, more portapotties, etc.). Last year I ran a 5K put on by a running club at a local university for only $15 because they had like no costs to make up for (and they weren’t looking to make much/any profit). Now I’m happy if I can find a 5K for anything less than $35 haha.

I LOVE MAIL SO MUCH. Seriously. It’s like unhealthy how much I love mail haha. I actually write letters to my non-Chicago friends all the time–I write my sister a letter every week–because real mail is so much more fun than e-mail. It’s also why I do Foodie Penpals through The Lean Green Bean: guaranteed mail! I love love love love love getting and sending letters. And I love love love love love the post office. Haha I’m such a nerd :p

    • I wish i could do the foodie pen pal but it got too darn expensive for me. ok the grocery store kills me each week the worst part is walking away feeling like heck i didn’t buy that much why is my wallet empty. arg arg arg i need to find some cheaper races, i am hoping the store will help me find some of them

  24. I watched the debate for 5minutes and switched it over to Family Guy..I just couldn’t do it. I hear you on the mail…I used to be so excited to get letters/packages. I think I am going to send some out, probably not thought because I don’t have anyone’s address.

MY CRAVINGS have been unreal the past few days. The worst part is I cannot figure out WHAT the hell I want. It’s driving me CRAZY! YAYAYA FOR the half marathon!! Good for you, DO NOT regret it, go do it and have fun!

  25. Get a butternut squash and roast it up. They’re cheap at the markets right now and I can get 4 meals out of one using it different ways. Plus, it’s yummy!!!

You have such a great following on your blog–you should reach out to some races and see if they’d be willing to work with you and give you free entry in exchange for some promotion. Seriously!!!

XO Can’t wait to hang out next weekend at MCM! I’ll message you so we can make plans :)

    • I actually reached out to the cherry blossom 10 miler, i just kind of feel not good enough to reach out to actual companies about being sponsored. i don’t even think i would know where to start. i have been buying squash up the wazzoo because it is so freaking cheap. I can’t wait to hang out… eek such a great group going. Enjoy the taper!

  26. A whipped cream and sprinkles craving sounds pretty darn good! I’ve been obsessed wtih chocolate almond milk lately and a new shirt I got at gap (nothing special, but I put it on every day after work)….weird!

  27. My Thursday thought is that I really need to clean house, but I’m avoiding it by catching up on blogs!

  28. Yay for signing up for the race. I am obsessed with the show House right now. A friend let us borrow his DVDs!

  29. I love getting mail too. I still mail out cards and such. We obviously need to keep the post office in business! BTW, how much was your half registration? I never know if I am paying too much?

  30. Holy cow! When I sign up for the one is Wisconsin, it’s only 65 (but I have to sign up like 5 months before).

  31. haha – I love the random, awesome-ness of this post. Your E-cards are hilarious.

Congrats on the job at the run store! I love Dexter but we don’t have Showtime either. We always bum the season DVDs from friends (we’re watching season 6 right now). And I didn’t watch the debate either…

  32. I would love to work at a running store. That sounds awesome to me! I also can’t stand the price of races. I rationalize it since running is a cheap sport in comparison to a lot of others!

  33. Sounds like a tough week! Good job on signing up for the run. The money spending part isn’t so fun BUT you will have lots of fun doing the race I’m sure! :) I can never afford all the food I want either. When you’re cooking just for yourself it’s hard cause stuff goes bad. Good luck with the job this weekend!!! :)

  34. I just finished Thirteen Reasons Why too! I really liked it but it was really intense. I think everyone (especially teenagers) should read it to understand the impact of the way they treat people can have. That’s exciting about the race, by the way! I really want to do a Rock n Roll half someday.

  35. Yay for the new job! So exciting. I have not watched any debates either, I know it’s kinda bad but I’m just not interested and kind of cynical about the whole process. and YUM sprinkles

  36. I’ve been really tired lately too. I keep saying that I’ll start my mornings next week, then I end up pushing it back one more week, and again. What tips would you give to my lazy self??

    • for me, it is all about the planning. i go to bed knowing i am waking up no matter what. all my stuff is set out. i also remind myself that i have no time to do it after work so it is now or never. haha

  37. If your parentals have cable and subscribe to HBO/showtime etc you can log on online and get them for free! (Or really anyone you know who subscribes and is willing to cough up their password) YAY!

  38. I finished Dawson’s Creek … six seasons … all of it. now I feel a little lonely. a part of me just died. haha I’m gonna email you a link so you can watch dexter … for free.
