MIMM: Oh Man

While you are all on vacation, I will be at work. No holiday for me. Blah at it finest. My head is all over the place – the down from the weekend for sure.

I usually love my Mondays, but this one is just a downgrade from my weekend. The fact I had to say bye to my mom after two days of amazing times just makes me sad. We were lucky enough she got to stay in my apartment with me. We barely even were in my apartment because we were constantly go go go. Wonderful to say the least – or should I say marvelous!

Marvelous… I spent Thursday night through Sunday morning with my best friend doing everything friends would do together. My mom and I took advantage of Dc by doing things I had yet to do. She even commented how she now understands why errands take me a full weekend because of all the walking I have to do. Having her car here was a god-sent.

Marvelous… we did some touristy things that normally I am not too into but were fun to share with my mom. We went to the Arlington National Cemetery and the Woodley Park Zoo. We even saw the movie The Perfect Curve Friday night and ate out twice the whole weekend she was here. I will let the pictures do the talking.

Marvelous… our Saturday morning was the ideal daughter mother morning. After heading to Eastern Market, we got coffee at this cute cafe then hit up the farmers market. I didn’t really buy anything but I did get this massive cabbage for $2. So many recipes I need to start exploring. We even ventured into this vinegar and oil shop where you could taste all the vinegar. My favorite was this pomegranate red wine vinegar. Doesn’t that just sound good?

Marvelous… that my body loves me and is craving an early morning run. I did not formally exercise for the three whole days she was here. Yes, the girl who logs 60+ mile weeks took those days to appreciate her body’s need for a rest. I wasn’t able to eat enough when my mom was here because of the stomach situation and my legs were feeling the burn. That meant an extended rest period which despite what the blogging community boasts about those active rest days and needing to exercise on vacation IS NORMAL. Heck I now feel ready to rock out more high mileage weeks starting today. I remember in my worst days thinking not exercising was not an option. Dare I say when I don’t exercise I actually lose or maintain weight – something my mind could not understand. My disordered mind never could handle rest days before, now I love them for all they bring my body.

Marvelous… that I kind of have no desire to recap this weekend word for word. It was that glorious, just running around with my mom, enjoying each other’s company. I thought I would want to go to this store, that store but in reality we didn’t really even shop. I instead wanted her to see DC and cherish our time together. We hit up bookstores, I showed her unique landmarks, we decorated my place with the pictures she brought from home…

Marvelous… my mom and I got to skype with my sister in the Turks and Caicos. She is like a bronze goddess. Christmas time I am going to look like her ghost next to her. It was nice to see her face, hear her voice and of course catch up on the hilariousness of her trip. There is this skin rash going around that produces this pussy reside – on your butt. Yep, it is highly contagious and while she doesn’t have it, it is spreading among her classmates who all live in one space together. Those kids have been forced to shower everyday (remember they don’t get to shower there) and wash their clothes frequently (again not something they normally get to do). Pray she doesn’t get it! Boy I miss her face.

Marvelous… that I needed this weekend and it did not disappoint. I have been feeling so caught up in all the bad things happening, getting caught up on what I didn’t have rather than all the wonderful things I do. This weekend reminded me that no matter what, I have family. That means so much and is not something everyone can say. (Oh and my mom brought adorable pictures of my dog, homesick much?)

Sorry to get all sappy on you this Monday. As I said, the pictures I take are from my phone aka a toddler could take better pictures. Bear with me. Let’s not forget that second root canal I have to get this upcoming Friday. My mom and I were talking and she made the comment ‘wow that is $4000 you could have spent on shopping’. You think I don’t know this? Woof. Luckily the dentist is letting me pay over a three month period which HE NEVER does but said he felt bad for me. Oh goodness, am I that much of a hot mess?

I got some work to pump out. This will be a long week my friends, a long week.

Questions: What was marvelous about your weekend? Are you looking forward to anything this Monday?

  27. So glad you got to spend quality (fun!) time with the momma. That is definitely a fabulous thing to do! And no holiday for me, either. Oh, well. I had a pretty marvelous weekend that more than makes up for it, too :)

  28. Looks like you are having an amazing time from those pics!

What is marvelous about my weekend? My wife and I got to our first major league soccer match! It was a blast and our team won!

  29. Don’t worry — I don’t have the day off either. Columbus Day is the most bogus national holiday anyway. Loser didn’t even discover America, and the lands he did discover he totally exploited. Columbus was a Class A jerkface, and I hate that we have a national holiday to celebrate his jerkiness.

AHHHHHH PANDA PHOTO!!! True life: my very very very first memory is of seeing pandas at the National Zoo in D.C. I remember being in the child-carrying backpack on my dad’s back and seeing the pandas. Love those animals <3

  30. Mom time is the best time. Sounds like you had a great weekend!

  31. I too have work today. You are not alone! And tummy issues. I am way proud of you for those rest days. It’s been hard for me to take it easy the last few days when I’m not feeling well. Some days it’s oKay, but some days I feel like I still “should” be moving more even if I want to rest. It’s great to be able to take what your body craves as the truth.
I may have missed this but are you and your sis twins? You look crazy alike.
Sprint2theTable’s comment made me LOl because I tried to go to the post office today. Aaaand..it was closed. #fail
I also give you props for not feeling pressure to word-for-word recap your weekend. Sometimes I find myself feeling like I “should” share an experience on the blog in detail even if I don’t want to. Then I just try to say “fuck it” and do a Wordless Wednesday :D

  32. Oh what a great weekend!!! Looks like you had a lot of fun and got to enjoy DC! Your apartment looks really cute from the pics! So glad you got to see your mum, hope the week goes well.

  33. I’m so glad you and your mom had a great visit!! I glad you took a rest day… I have been needing more of those b/c of my tummy troubles!

  34. That panda is adorable…as are the pics of your doggie! I had to work too :(

  35. What a fun weekend with your mom :) It sounds like it was much needed and well spent!
