I See A Smirk

Didn’t you always hate that? When you were in the worst possible mood and someone would say, oh I see a smile… is that a smile. I would want to scream, heck no I will eat your face. Today, though I am celebrating those #littlesmiles I talked about a while ago. Even if you are tired, frustrated, worried, whatever it may be – that little smirk can really make a difference. Not preaching, I swear.

It’s ok if… you are secretly plotting an ambush on Kaitlin’s house to try and steal that watermelon she buys for herself once a week.

It’s ok if…both your bosses are not in the office today but somehow you are here, working away thinking of how your apartment would have been a much nicer office today.

It’s ok if… your grocery list includes about four different stores so you can hit the best prices. That is a lot of walkin but a whole lot of saving. Coupon and list queen right here. Now I just need to actually just do what I saw I want to do. The hard part for sure.

It’s ok if… last night due to the bare fridge and pantry (I mean seriously I have DrinkChia and Salsa in there right now… that’s all) you make water soaked tapioca pearls, adding in a little bit of protein powder and NuNaturals to get some mighty tasty out of the norm tapioca. I just love the texture of tapioca, anyone else?

It’s ok if… you let your morning schedule, gasp, change a bit this morning. I gave myself less computer time by sleeping an extra half hour and then going for my run. Yes, I lost a half hour on my computer but I have to say I enjoyed it a whole lot more. Who knew a break of routine could feel so good?

It’s ok if… your run was slower than normal this morning due to your lead like legs and aching back from manual labor of cleaning the office yesterday. No fun, no fun.

It’s ok if… you miss your  mom a wee too much right now.

It’s ok if… you write an epic email this morning realizing how good it was for you and how far you have come to be able to share what you did.

That is all. How many more hours of the work day?

Questions: What is your it’s ok Friday deal? What is a little smile for you today?

  1. Even though I work at a grocery store (and get a discount when I shop there), I still hunt around for the best quality/deals. I went to a little Asian market yesterday and got two pints of cherry tomatoes for 2.99! You can’t beat that.

And it’s okay that I woke up at 11 today. I didn’t fall asleep till around 3, so I’m calling it even, even though I really want to get on a better sleeping schedule!

  2. Leaving early is ALWAYS on my mind!! Definitely into hitting up multiple grocery stores and totally missing my Mom right now too! Great thoughts for mid-day on a Friday! Hope the end of your day goes well!! :)

My “It’s Ok Friday” deal is always being okay with taking a power-nap in the afternoon/early evening. It just gets me in the BEST mood for the weekend! (Especially if I’m working the overnight shifts …)

  3. Oh,a change can always be so good for you after all,no matter how scary it seems to break your routines! I’m proud of you for doing that today,it takes a lot of courage and shows what sort of a strong fighter you are! :)

  4. ugh I used to hate when people sad that to me! please, please come ambush my house, I will buy you your own watermelon! I just had an overreacting which lead to anxiety moment and I thought about your early post and letting things go, I had to say let it go about 20 plus times to myself! Coupons are the best and totally fine to plan shopping trips around!

  5. bahaha that bothered me so much as a kid too.. cause it always made me laugh and my stubbornness was defeated!

An easy run is perfect sometimes – actually probably more often than you think! And definitely better than computer time, even if you have to convince yourself it’s so. ;)

  7. It is always okay to miss your Mom…Moms are the best! My little smile today is that, now that I’m back at school, I have access to a gym. Exercise feels so great!

  8. I am doing the same thing with the grocery shopping this weekend! I don’t mind the walking as long as it saves me some money, plus I love just seeing all the different things each store sells. I am too obsessed with grocery shopping!

  9. LOVE that ecard. One of my favorites I’ve ever seen.

  10. If my bosses weren’t at work I wouldn’t be there either. I’d be sick. And I miss my Mum tons too! It’s totally ok to miss her :) Annnddd if you mean the email you wrote me this morning, I loved reading it :) I cannot believe how much you have acheived :) Seriously, you should get like, a gold medal or something.

  11. Totally feel you on the bargain shopping and missing mom, too!

  12. It is the best finding a good deal at the supermarket! I am smiling about Sydney sunshine at the moment. Even though the air is nippy it is so lovely finally being able to get outdoors without fear of getting caught in the rain :D

  13. I always hit up so many grocery stores to get the best prices. And I have lots of points cards to collect points and get discounts later :) It definitely is okay to let your morning schedule change. It’s great to let loose :)

  14. I have never tried tapioca ! How would you reccomend it?(:

  15. Hatedd when people said that to me too. It was always (and prob would be if someone said it to me these days) to hold back from just telling them to stfu :) .

  16. It’s OK that I am super nervous to drive to college by myself for the first time. That I am nervous for this year to start. That I am nervous to grow up! ps any advice for grocery shopping on a budget?

    • oh my gosh so much advice lovely! I am excited for you! Keep track of sales each week, keep a list, I don’t carry cash on me. this way I make myself buy enough one trip per week. Also set a reasonable budget, email me if you have any questions! i love email buddies!

  17. I totally do the same thing with grocery shopping. I go to two different stores to get certain things because once I know which store has a better price, I can’t justify spending more just because I am at the one store. Thankfully, the two places I go are close to each other so its not like I really spend more on gas or anything! All about the bargains!hahaha

  18. Yes to going to 22473 different grocery stores to get the best deals!!

  19. It’s okay if I run at a min. higher pace than the rest of my cross country team, because I’m still pretty awesome and fit when it comes down to it. ;)

I actually REALLY loved this post, Alex! You made me laugh so much, starting with the picture of the “mood swing” from my WordPress Reader, to the first few sentences.. And I quote, “When you were in the worst possible mood and someone would say, oh I see a smile…is that a smile. I would want to scream, heck no I will eat your face.” <— AHAHA! Love that!

    • Aw I am glad this resonated with you. I just am the same way for sure. Keep it up, you will improve with your xc team I always started the season a whole lot worse than when I ended. Gives you space for growth.

  20. haha I think about that every friday when my bosses aren’t in nor half of my team!
