Blog ‘Rules’ or How I Roll

Furniture shopping, new store discovering, and metro riding… oh my! Today was such a success on so many levels.

I came across this on Andrea’s blog and found it interesting. I guess I never gave anyone an explanation about how I roll on the blog. Friends who know I have a blog always ask “what do you write about”, “how do you have things to write”. These are not really my rules, because rules suck, but this is what you can expect over here at The Run Within.

  1.  I don’t have a fancy camera. I don’t have a camera period. That means pictures will be reused and recycled. If they are not from my iPhone they are from the internet.
  2. That being said, the picture quality is never good. My bad.
  3. I don’t and probably never will post all of what I eat in a day. Heck, it changes a lot and to be real I don’t have the time. I eat what works for me and I bet no one else needs to eat this way. Everyone’s body needs different fuel. Also, having celiacs throws a big wrench in the picture for comparison.
  4. On the flip side, I will post some foodie gems. Like cheap and rare snacks I found at World Market (Seriously had a heart attack when I walked in that store, I wanted everything. Drop everything and go there now. Look at the loot!)
  5. I don’t really have a schedule. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. I like to just go with the flow of blogging.
  6. Fad diets will not appear on this blog. I like sugar, I like junk food, I like fruits and vegetables too. I practice and believe in moderation. Sprinkles all day everyday.
  7. I will only review and post about products I eat and enjoy almost daily. If you have seen the products I do, I do them not for money or for any sort of compensation. I do them because I truly love that product and want you guys to learn about it. Like the GoodBelly challenge I started today. Day 1: Probiotic Shot – yummy!
  8. My posts will have sarcasm and probably terrible humor. If you met me in real life you would know that is me. I won’t change that. It may not come off as strong through my blog but I promise you I am a sarcastic sass ball.
  9. I don’t post a lot of pictures of myself or clothes. This is mostly my insecurity so something I may want to work on but for now, don’t go expecting some full mirror shots from me. I don’t even own a full length mirror, I never plan to either.
  10. I will be real. I will talk about my struggles, my insecurities and my fears. However, I will never be triggering. I think for the sake of readers, I don’t include details of past behaviors I had outside of recovery. Not needed. However, I do encourage people to email me if they want or need to talk therunwithin@gmail.com.
  11. My fitness plan will be more of snippet focus than a full review. I am not really in any sort of formal plan. I just do what feels good. I don’t plan out each days workout at all. I wake up, do what feels right and call it a day. Simple yet works for me.
  12. I will complain. I wish I didn’t do it as much as I do but it is hard not be a debbie downer sometimes. Sorry in advance for this one.
  13. I will never share details about my friends or family that can be traced back to an actual person. I am vague in those details because many of them don’t know I have a blog.
  14. I will use strange language. I will use weird phrases you may never have heard of. I do forget that they are not common language sometimes.
  15. I will and do respond to every comment. I love hearing from people. Comments mean the world to me. That means I read every single one because I want to, because I like to. Responding just feels natural in the conversation.
  16. I will answer any question honestly. If you email or comment a question, I will be upfront and tell you the truth. That is only fair.

This was fun for me because I realized a lot about my blogging. My blogging is for me. Yes, I love the people that read my blog and the people I have met through my blog but what keeps me coming back is that accountability and honesty with myself. That is something I have been struggling to find for a while. For once, I have tackled it and have even enjoyed that process.

… Now help me out, which table do you like more?

Questions: Any questions you want me to answer? What is one thing you always do on your blog?

  1. I like the second table better. On my blog, I always try to be real and really post about how my day went, not make things sound better than they really are, especially because my psychologist reads it to know how I’m doing.

  2. The second one! And your openness and honesty is the reason I enjoy reading your blog

  3. Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie

Good rules! I’m pretty similar on most of them :) have fun with the new apartment!

  4. I like the green table with the stools!
    This was an interesting post!

  5. Definitely the first table. It is much more home-y and will be nicer when you want to sit down and relax with dinner.

  6. I like the first table! The second one looks more like it would be part of a set, I think.. Like, you’d have to have a theme for the room. On my blog, I just kinda try to go with the flow. I talked about it today.. I used to try to fit the HLB mold, now I’m sayin’ eff it. I love your blog ps :)

  7. Whoop whoop! You stay true to the reason behind blogging and I love it! Keep goinggg. I like table number one!

  8. I love how you posted all that and then asked about the table (btw, I like the first one the best). I really like reading your blog for the reasons you listed, and you are so right about World Market, they have some amazing foodie finds there!

  9. I kinda like the first table! And um YES to those rules. That’s more or less how I roll too, I don’t think fitting the “healthy living blog” mold would work for me. And gahhhh so jealous of your World Market purchases!!! There was one near me when I lived in Raleigh and i pretty much lived there. None in PA sadly so I’m crossing my fingers they have one in CO haha!

  10. I love ‘how you roll’ !!! All these ‘rules’ are basically all the things I love about your writing and your blog!

  11. I like the second one. I really enjoy your honesty in your posts and how your posts really sound like they’re coming from a real person, if you know what I mean.

  12. I like the second one girl. I’m not a big fan of the first tables chair. Gotta be comfy when your sitting down to eattt :)

  13. i like the first one! i like that you write exactly how you are feeling- the best way to do it! that’s definitely one rule i try to stick to also…if i don’t want to write i try not to force it… and just being yourself, insecurities and all, is what comes across as genuine and keeps interaction between you and readers… its fun :)

  14. The first one :) And this post is awesome; especially number 10. It really makes you seem super mature and respectable. Love it.

  15. i’m with you on the awesome iPhone photography. and the sprinkles!

  16. Loveee all these on how you roll. I don’t have a fancy camera either. Just an iPhone and some free apps haha.

  17. I love your blog because you dare to be honest and stick to yourself and your lifestyle. You don’t pretend to be anyone or anything you’re not; you admit your struggles and problems as well as the fact that your ED is still a part of your life, and this is something I really miss when reading several blogs out there. You’re right, your blog definitely is real,I can feel that, and that is why I love it so much.

  18. Ahhh, #10. That is one of my favorite things about your blog. I can tell that you are honest and real. I love it!

  19. I like the second one! :) These are many reasons why I read your blog. ;)

  20. I love this post and love that you respond to every comment- I am the same way with my blog! If readers can take the time out to comment, the least i can do is acknowledge it by replying :) !

  21. I think I like the second table with the barstool more. I’m like you–I don’t have a set schedule for blogging–I do it when I have time or feel like it. And I do have a fancy camera but I don’t have time to use it to take pictures of every single thing I eat. That’s boring, to me. I use my camera for my own purposes.

  22. First table! I’m a dark wood kinda gal. And I really like your blogging rules! Of course, they’re different than mine. But what would the world of blogging be without our differences? :)

  23. I like the second take! I like your rules. I love how honest and real you are. Keep that up! It is refreshing. xoxo

  24. Love this post! Also, I prefer the first table! The seats look way more supportive/comfortable!

  25. Hi! I am getting so good at these comments! haha..ha (didn’t delete the last one…)

I like the first table better because it is darker so it will last longer… won’t show as much dirt in my opinion and is easier to fix up yourself if something goes wrong with it. Also, it is homier looking and will contrast your light colored flooring :D But both are great in the end because I love stools!! Except after a long day leaning back will be nice…aka… table 1 wins for me.

SPRINKLES SPRINKLES SPRINKLES…. that is all.

  26. I’m not sure if you already picked a table but the first one is best in my opinion. It can last longer. And I love everything about you. Don’t ever change! :)
